TOPIC: "Concept Mapping Activity as “Step Zero” for Seeking a First Co-op Experience"

PRESENTER: Jennifer Woodside, University of Waterloo

DATE: Tuesday, March 10, 2020 @ 1:00 - 2:00 pm EST

DESCRIPTION:  "It All Adds Up” (IAAUp) is a brief, experiential career wellness-promoting intervention designed by Queen’s University Career Services. It involves working with a student one-on-one to create a word cloud or concept map of their current activities, areas of skill and knowledge development, and goals. Over the course of 10-15 minutes, the concept map takes shape and serves to summarize visually how everything the student has been doing and thinking about “adds up” to the future personal successes they’re striving for.

The University of Waterloo has adapted the IAAUp experience into a fantastic “step 0” for junior students enrolled in co-op, who will soon seek to write a résumé or practice networking and interviewing. The simple pen-to-paper design gives students a kinesthetic and visual experience that helps them internalize that their past efforts are valuable and that they have personal agency moving forward. It also offers them personal insights into how ready they are to communicate with employers, enabling a conversation about the types of resources they may want to access in the coming weeks.

This webinar will give you a brief overview of the IAAUp methodology and how it can be incorporated into a WIL support setting.

Free for CEIA Members / Non-Members $25.00

Registration closes Sunday, March 8, 2020 @ 11:30 pm EST.
